What are the costs?

Most Advanced Motorists groups are charities, run by volunteers. So, we do not charge for our services to help you pass your test. However, you must pay the Institute of Advanced Motorists for your test fees and membership. This is because they need to pay an examiner to test you, and to keep the Institute going.
To make it simple, there is one payment to make that will start you off as an advanced driver.
It is a one-off cost (currently £85), called the 'Skill for life' package. You get a £10 discount if you are lucky enough to be under 25.

After that, you can remain a member of the IAM for a yearly fee of £18. For this, you get to keep your status as an Advanced Driver and receive the Advanced Driving magazine and many other benefits.
You could also remain a member of your local group - Derby Group's yearly renewal fee is £7. For this you get our regular Newsletter and keep in touch with the group for continued support.
